Founded in January 1989 by Ivy Olson, Angel Network Charities, Inc. (ANC) is a private, non-profit organization serving Oahu's homeless and at-risk families. Originally designated by the State as Hawaii Kai's Homeless Village, ANC replaced the village concept with a scattered site plan that did not stigmatize residents. At the time ANC partnered with various churches, businesses, professionals, and other agencies to insure that the families gained the skills and education needed to become and remain self-sufficient. Many of these families continue to be self-supporting to this day.
ANC began as a grassroots, all-volunteer organization supported by Calvary by the Sea Lutheran Church in Aina Haina. As it grew from caring for a few families to over 40, the need for professional leadership became clear. Today, ANC has a small paid staff, volunteers, and a seven member Board of Directors. In 2002, we stopped our transitional housing program mainly due to lack of funding but continue to provide a FoodBank
