from Tom German

Evangelism Committee Update: June 6, 2007

NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION SESSIONS:
Have been scheduled for the four consecutive Sundays beginning with June 3. Individuals expressing interest in joining our church have been contacted, and attended the first session on 6/3. New Member welcoming and introduction to the congregation is scheduled for June 24th.

“INACTIVE” MEMBER LETTER:
Yukio has been advised of our suggested revisions to his draft.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY:
The Evangelism Team has completed the assembly of the 100 new Membership Directories, and they are ready for distribution.

TASTE OF EAST HONOLULU:
Was a resounding success. Plans are already in the works for the 2nd annual event. Our sincere thanks to the Council for their support, patience, and remarkable involvement and contributions.

IMPROVED INFORMATION-GATHERING SYSTEM:

“VISITOR CARD / PRAYER REQUEST” PADS:
We’ve done some research at other churches, and are combining some ideas we’ve discovered: We’re developing a 2-sided “tear-off” pad to be housed in the pew-backs during services. One side will be a visitor information request form for us to follow up on, and the other side will be a prayer-request form for members and attendees to use to register their requests of us. It will be more private and, we hope, a much more accessible  method.

INSCRIPTIONS ON OUR NEW HYMNALS:
The inscriptions that our members paid for to be placed in the new hymnals haven’t appeared in the hymnals yet. This will be a positive addition to the evangelical side of our church. The need for the inscriptions was addressed at the last Council meeting, and is being expedited by Laura Sprowls who has volunteered to make the arrangements necessary to finish the project.

NEW PROJECT: “BOOK MARKERS”:
A subtle, long-term method of reminding people of the church...we’re going to develop a tasteful, small, “Calvary by the Sea” bookmarker to offer at the entry of our sanctuary. It’ll be cheap to produce, and will be a convenience used by many in our congregation who still read.

Respectfully Submitted,
 Thomas German
