INTERIM PASTORíS REPORT ††††††† September 19 to October 15, 2003

Many times I have shared with you the five developmental tasks in our interim time. They are:

1.††††† Coming to terms with our history in its ups and downs

2.††††† Moving through shifts in Leadership

3.††††† Developing a New Identity

4.††††† Enhancing relationship with Pacifica Synod, ELCA and the Ecumenical Partnerships

5.††††† Commitment to New Leadership and Directions

Our major focus right now is # 5.Our CALL TEAM & STEWARDSHIP TEAM are busy making our small groups, Hui Ohana, come alive in understanding our mission and what leadership needs our people desire.Along with this comes commitment of money and energy to make it happen in the coming year.

What we do now as leaders will give shape to what happens as we enter next year, the year of new Pastor and Direction for Calvary by the Sea.This event is designed to strengthen the relationships among the membership here. The more we as leaders reach out to members we donít already know the stronger we will become.Mahalo to all who are working so hard to make this happen.

Please read over the 14 names on my statistic report as New Prospective members.I am asking that you approve them. These are the persons who have filled out the membership forms and desire to make Calvary by the Sea their church home. They will be received on Sunday October 26.These people should also be invited to the Hui Ohana meetings.†† Make sure you get to know them by name and introduce yourself to them.

We have a great team put together. They have now finished my evaluation and are starting on the evaluations of our other staff. They will also be involved in working through issues and requirements of people who are volunteering with our children and youth.

I now have several names of people who are willing to serve on our Education team to help with planning our Sunday School and total Christian Education.I will present their names for approval at the November Council meeting.Again, I urge you to be attending Sunday School if you are not already involved in something else on Sunday mornings. Here is where you will meet a variety of people who are new to Calvary by the Sea and you will get to hear first hand what our people are thinking as they share highs and lows and experience each other with the Scriptures.

I will be attending a conference for Senior Pastors Leading Multiple Staff Teams. This conference is in West Palm Beach, Florida.I will be gone from November 6 through the 14th.Chaplain Commander Steve Jensen will be preaching here for me while I am gone.

I have now had 4 meetings and discussions with Pastor Larry Gardner, Paul Tomita, Dr. Arthur Harvey, andRhonda Tsugawa. We are coming together with some recommendations that will be presented at our November council of deacons meeting.Wedding ministry is one of the main programs we offer at Calvary by the Sea and it is important that we are together on what this means and how it should be accomplished.

We are entering a new stage in our interim time.Letís keep the communication open and alive.Exciting days are ahead.

Peace & Power

Pastor Russ
