Council of Deacons
18th November 2010
1) Call to Order
President Kim Bock called the meeting to order at 6.00 pm. A quorum of Deacons was present, including President Bock, Nyki Giasolli, Martha Staff, Milton Okamoto, Yukio Hamada, Pastor Tim Mason, Rafael del Castillo, Garret Pick, Steve Egesdal, Tim Sprowls, and Bob Joseph. Apologies were received from John Collins and Jim Myers. Guests included Parish Administrator Shelby Yuu, Accountant Linda Cluney, and Director of Music & the Arts Tom Poole.
Pastor Tim read a brief devotional.
3) Approval of October Minutes
Ms. Giasolli moved approval of the minutes, and the motion passed unanimously.
4) Japanese Weddings
Mr. Sprowls reported that the Request for Proposals for a new Japanese wedding contract will be released by the end of November, and he expects to come to the Council with a recommendation from the Committee for awarding a new contract at the January meeting.
5) Treasurer’s Report
Ms. Giasolli reported that we are doing as procedural audit this year, and will plan to do a full audit in 2011.
She also noted that the Angel Network has had 53 turkeys donated for its annual Thanksgiving Dinner and the cost of cooking them has become large. Mr. Sprowls moved that $500 be allocated to ANC for the cost of cooking these turkeys, and the motion passed unanimously.
6) Discussion of Draft Budget for 2011
The remainder of the meeting was devoted to going line by line through the draft budget prepared by Ms. Cluney, Ms. Giasolli, and Ms. Bock. This exercise concluded with a balanced draft budget which the Council will review over the next month and do further fine-tuning in the December Council meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 9.30 pm. The next meeting will be on Thursday, 9th December.
